Update: Yesterday's Vet Appointment

Ok so here is where we are at. Above is the most recent picture of Moki's urine sample. The picture as well as the urine where collected only moments ago.

Yesterdays vet appointment yielded some good news. The first is that Moki's temperature is remaining within the normal range and the second bit of good news is that Moki is continuing to gain back the weight he lost. As of yesterday Moki weighed in at approximately 5.5 pounds. Go Moki!

Now for the bad news, as you can see from the picture above, the blood has returned in Moki's urine and it is quickly approaching the stage which caused his temperature drop and him to loss weight in Nov and Dec. In hopes of treating Moki's urinary problem, we gave him another shot yesterday and have started him on a two week course of Penicillin. We did discuss the possibility of putting Moki back on the Clindamycin, but decided to go with the Penicillin instead because it is easier on his kidneys and liver.

In two to three weeks we will have to take Moki back to the vet for a recheck at which point we will either continue with the Penicillin if it is working or switch Moki's meds to some thing else. We will also be monitoring his weight and body temperature to make sure that there are no further changes in either of them.

In the meantime we ask that everyone please continue to purr and pray for Moki to get through this ordeal. He has been such a little trooper through it all. Thanks everyone!

Blood Be Gone

I know may of you have been anxiously awaiting an update on Moki, so here it is... Finally...lol! The blood in Moki's urine has returned. Fortunately it is not as bad as it was this last time around, but it will require another trip to the vet. We will be making an appointment to bring Moki in tomorrow, and will discuss the possibility of giving Clindamycin another try. As some of you may recall, the Clindamycin worked wonders for Moki in the past, but after months of being on the medication, Moki eventually built up a tolerance to it. Now that Moki has been off the Clindamycin for approximately a month, it may start working again, so we might opt to give it another try. We'll wait and see how tomorrow goes...
As for momma bean, school officially started today. Her application was incomplete, meaning that she couldn't actually start classes today, but did spend most of the day down at the college, getting all the paperwork together, and standing in the long line at the admissions department. Now that the remaining paperwork has been turned in (a missing transcript and residency questionnaire,) the school just needs to process it, and then momma bean enroll in her classes.
The next few months are going to be pretty crazy for momma bean. A full time student at the university carries 12 units. Momma bean will be caring 13 at the university, and then an additional 4 at the junior college, making her total 17 units for the quarter. In addition to the heavy school load, momma bean also dropped off a copy of her resume to two doctors on campus who are looking for a part time secretary/admin assistant. The job would be perfect for momma bean, and she so hopes that the doctors consider hiring her. The job is just 10 hours a week which would work out great with momma beans school schedule, so please keep your fingers crossed for her...
With all that said, you'll have to please excuse us (momma bean, the boyfriend, Moki, Orange Boy and so forth,) if we are unable to post on a regular basis, or visit everyone as much as we would like in the up and coming months. We will of course try our hardest to bring you an update at least a couple times a week, and to visit everyone as much as possible in the limited time we have. After all we couldn't dream of a world, even if just for a few months, without all of you in it!
