Special Needs Part 4 - Medicine/Moki Station

You might be asking right about now, what is "Moki Station?" Moki Station is an area of the house that has been especially desinated to meet Moki's special needs. Here you will find most of the everyday supplies needed to care for Moki. (Sorry about the video, but it was recorded sideways...I think it will still give you a feel for what we are talking about...)

The station allows us easy access to many of the things Moki needs on a regular basis. As you can see, it contains, towels, wash cloths, cat wipes, medicines which do not need to be refridgerated, syringes, supplements and a emergency supply of A/D, amongst other things. The station also contains a special eating area for Moki, since he cannot walk across the hard wood floor to access the regular eating area of the other cats. Having the station allows us to quickly and effectively meet whatever needs Moki may have at any given time. It also saves us time in the morning when we may be in a hurry to get some where...Thus far, we have found the station to be very benefical to everyone, humans and Moki alike!

Since the station is so closely tied to Moki's medical needs, we decided to capture this video of how Moki is given his medicine...As you have probably guessed by now, we cannot give Moki medicine like a regular kitty. His neurological disorder makes it to difficult to give him medicine while sitting or standing up.

As a result, we give Moki all of his liquid medicines why laying on his side, as seen in the above video. Because Moki is laying down, we have to be extra careful and give him his medicine slowly. Fortunately, since Moki has been on medicine most of his life, he is very good at taking it.

In this last video, we also captured Moki getting down from the single step found at Moki's Station. While Moki obvisouly cannot climb up and down a flight of stairs, he can manage to get up and down this one carpeted step. Of course he does it a little different than most, but then again Moki is a little different than most!

Now that we have shown you, how Moki uses the litter box, associates with other kitties in the house and how we clean Moki, Wednesday, we would like to address some of the comments made thus far. If you have any questions about parts 1 thru 4 of this series, please leave them in the comments section below, so we can address them on Wednesday as well! And now for some announcements...

The more I read about Moki the more I'm inspired by both his ability to be a great kitty and also that there are people in this world willing to do what it takes to give kitties like him the special attention needed...

Moki, what about getting you wheels to help your back end. I know they do that for dauchshunds when they have back problems and their back legs don't work well.

wow Moki you're great in taking medicine...that's good mancat indeed! we're here -at first- it's ok to take pills/fluid medicine, but the next following day, we used to wiggle all the way -poor mommy coz we dislike the taste & stinky smell- so mommy had to mixed the medicine into our daily meals....

btw, when you're coughing do you sneeze also & have runny nose? if your mommy & daddy aren't around, what will you do to clean up your runny nose since you have difficulty to groom yourself, can you or have you ever try to wash your face by licking your paws & rub them on your furry face?

psst Moki, our mommy love to see your picture so she print it out in full size paper...OMG, even our pictures here she never make it into printing;) Your eyes reflect it all that you have indepth understanding on your condition & what's going on with you, so we're glad that you're helping mommy & daddy there to be a brave & understanding kitty:)

When we think of all the abused, unwanted and abandoned animals in the world, it is depressing. When we see an animal so loved and wanted - as Moki obviously is - we are encouraged.

Moki is the cutest thing on four furry legs that we've seen in a long time! I am so glad that Moki has very very special & loving parents. You are very organized!

Thank you so much for bringing light and knowledge to us about neurological kittys. You give hope to little guys that people are usually afraid to adopt.

Thank you for visiting our blog so that we can now follow Moki and his daily routine. Our Mom read all about him with a box of kleenex handy. What a precious baby you have there and what a lucky little boy he is to have found his way into your hearts. You both are true cat angels!

Wow, Moki - you are one great mancat! We admire you and if we would have kittens - we would send them over so you could be their role model! We actually would like to send some humans over too so they can take your humans as role models!!! Hahahahahahahahahaha
