High Cost Medicine Yeilds Signs Of Improvement

It's been a little over a week since we mentioned the worsening of Moki's cough/congestion...
the addition of the Tamiflu to his regular course of medication...

and the running of URD PCR Panel.

So some of you may be wondering where we are at now... Well as you can see from the lab results shown above, Moki tested negative for everything included on the URD PCR panel. This includes, Chilamydophila Felis, Calici Virus, Herpes Virus, Bordetella and Mycoplasma Felis. So basically at this point we have ruled out an URI infection contributing to his cough/chest congestion...

What does that mean you might be asking yourself? Well we still don't know. What we do know are these three things...
1. Moki's chest congestion tends to respond to antibiotics.
2. The cough/chest congestion is not being caused by a URI.
3. Moki's cough is most likely caused by the problem going on with his thoracic inlet, however while that explains the cough it does not explain the chest congestion, which keeps coming back...
So with all of that said, to answer what is no doubt one of your remaining questions, yes, the Tamiflu is working, and yes, the cough/chest congestion is improving. Unfortunately the cost of the Tamiflu has increase Moki's monthly medicine bill from $32.00 a month (for just the Clindamycin, which is used to treat his UTI, and is a general antibiotic) to $172.00 a month (the monthly cost of the Clindamycin in addition to the now monthly cost of the Tamiflu.) To help cover these costs we will be putting together some more fundraisers in the near future. In the meantime, anyone who would like to make just a direct donation can do so using the Paypal button on Moki's left hand side bar...
As for physical therapy, if Moki continues to show signs of improvement throughout the week, he will return to his normal physical therapy session this Saturday.

I'm very glad the Tamiflu is helping Moki and that he tested negative to all of those nasty things. I hope he feels well enough to return to physio soon.

I am glad the Tamiflu is helping! My big sister Pixie started taking Plavix (among other medicines) a couple years ago to help prevent blood clot formations due to her cardiomyopathy. It was still experimental in cats, and she had been taking baby aspirin before that. We noticed a huge improvement on the Plavix, because she stopped having syncopal episodes, which we think were due to small blood clots. Anyway, my point is that sometimes new medicines really work well!

Moki,
You are going through so much. I just wish you could get cured. And your medicine is getting much more expensive too. My mom has been spending so much on trying different remedies for my sister PooPoo's issues, we know how it is. I hope you will get better so you can go back to your physical therapy.

I hate when you don't know whats wrong. I think thats even worse than the problem itself. There is nothing worse than the unknown. We will do whatever we can do to try and help support you. money isn't something we have a whole lot of, but whenever we find some extra, be sure to know it'll be on its way to you. :)

Moki, I wonder if any of your prescriptions would be covered by Walgreens Prescription Savings Club, which does cover some pet medications? We are planning to purchase our kitty's asthma inhaler through the program, and it looks like it will save us significant money. Just a thought.
