Moki's getting Sub-Q-Fluids

Well, we are back from the vet and we have a bit of good news...Moki's temperature is back to normal! We gave Moki some more sub q fluids and the doctor wrote us a prescription for the Tamiflu. The pharmacy was closed by the time we got out of the vet's office so we will have to pick it up tomorrow. Now that Moki is hydrated again, he actually weighs a little more, mostly weight gain from the fluids, but still good to hear. The congestion is still present, but I am keeping my fingers crossed that the Tamiflu will knock it out. Going forward we are going to try an experiment. I bought a bag of sub-q-fluids to bring home with us to help keep Moki hydrated until he starts drinking again, he will thus receive fluids everyday to every other day for the next 10 days. During this time we are going to monitor the amounts of blood in Moki's urine. If I am correct in my assumptions, then the regular dose of sub-q-fluids should eliminate the blood in Moki's urine in addition to keeping him hydrated. At the end of 10 days, I will report my finding back to the vet and we will go forward from there.

As long as we can keep Moki hydrated and eating then I think we may be able to get every thing under control once again. We have done it before and I WILL NOT give up hope that it can be done again. As long as Moki's chooses to fight, we will stand by him!

Thank you so much to everyone who is purring, praying and showing their support for Moki! God is listening and he is working on answering our prayers!

We are so happy to hear that Moki is doing better today! Sub-q's can make a big difference in the way a kitty feels. We'll keep purring - lots.

Note from 'Kaika's mom: If sub-q's are going to be a part of Moki's treatment plan for a while, an inexpensive source of lactated ringer solution is KV Vet Supply online. All you need is a prescription faxed from your vet. I was paying $20 per bag when I was buying from the vet, but the cost is significantly less from KV. You can also order the lines and sharps, too. Hang in there...

Fight, Moki, fight! I am glad that your temperature is back to normal and that you and your Mom may have found the solution to the blood in your urine. While you are fighting, chow down and drink up!

I fink you are right about the fluids, my housemate Tigmut'hep has FLUTD that My Mummy has been managing in him for (nearly 7 yrs) longer than I've even been alive! The trick has been to get more fluid into him, this saves him having bouts of cystitis and blood in his pee. In fact Mummy's got it so well under control now that Tigmut'hep has been able to get back to eating more of the food he likes and off the Rx food that he hated! Of course this has somewhat improved Tigmut'hep's mood, although he's still a big black grumper for the most part! ;)

I shall purr for Moki and hope that it the fluids do their trick and make him feel a LOT better fast! :)

Purrs,
Ramses

We're happy to hear Moki is doing better!!! We'll keep on purring for all of you.

By the way, we don't know if this would help, but our humans will add boiled water from the kettle into our canned food to get more liquid into us, especially for Ms. P who has kidney issues.

Have a wonderful, healing weekend.

This is not our first visit to Moki's page, but we think it's our first comment. We are happy to see today that he is responding to the sq fluids and the Tamiflu is a miracle drug, so hopefully he can get through the URI without any residual effects. Teri's a vet tech and helps keep us healthy but even we get sick sometimes. If Moki needs sq fluids every day for the rest of his life to keep the UTI from coming back, that's cheap and easy. She said another thing you may not have tried is Metacam, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. At the cat hospital where she works, they use it a lot in FIC cats (Feline Interstitial Cystitis). Do your vets think you could have that?

Anyway, keep getting better!
