Special Needs Part 1 - Grooming

Grooming – Can Moki do this himself, or do we have to help him?

The simple answer to this is no. Moki cannot groom himself. The problem lies in Moki's ability to coordinate his movement. Whenever Moki concentrates, Moki starts to shake. Simple everyday movements that you or I might take for granted, require a great deal of concentration for Moki to be able to preform.

As a result my boyfriend and I have to do all of Moki's grooming for him. When Moki first got sick I purchased a series of cheap white wash clothes and towels. We use the wash clothes and towels I purchased in combination with kitty wipes to clean Moki. We start with a warm wet wash cloth, and wipe Moki down. The warm wash cloth removes anything which may get stuck in Moki's fur, i.e, food, litter, feces. We then use cleansing cat wipes, to clean Moki's fur as shown in the video above.

We usually have to give Moki a good cleaning once a week. During the week we can usually get away with simply touching up places that get dirty the most in other words, around his face, paws, hind legs and tail.

Hi Moki! You are such a handsome boy. You humans sure do love you lots! Mom had a Peke who once started walking much as you do.

Mom: After many x-rays and tests and more tests, my vet suggested I bring my sweet Ching to Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL for a neuroligical workup. Ultimately, I decided against it because they said they could likely give me a diagnosis, but they could offer no treatment. What happened two months later? A complete recovery! My vet agreed with my guess... I thought he may have had a stroke. But it was about 3 months of worry, and tests and helping him go to the bathroom and eat... It's amazing what you are willing to do when you love your pet! And I mean beyond the expenses, which are ogten great.

Moki seems to be enjoying his wipe-down. Thank you for the information on his grooming. I think it's good for all of us to learn what is involved in caring for a special-needs kitty like Moki.
